How to Use Hobbies to Bond With Your Friends or Make New Friends

Socializing during the winter can be a challenge, especially if you live in colder climates where the temperatures drop to their lowest and it’s easier to stay home and feel lonely. Of course, it doesn’t have to be that way. Now, there’s no need to force yourself to try new things unless you want to. You can find things to do in your city that matter to you. As I mentioned in a previous post, always let your hobbies be your guide. If you don’t have any hobbies, then it’s time to learn a new one.

So, here are five hobby-based things to do with your friends and even make new ones.

1. Cooking classes.

Cooking classes are a great way to combine creativity, learn new skills, learn new ways to eat, improve confidence, improve cultural awareness, and of course, socialize. There’s so much to learn in the world of the culinary arts and learn about your friends. If you don’t have anyone to go with you, no worries. You’re bound to make an acquaintance or two.

2. Dance classes.

You can join solo, as a couple, or as a group just as long as you move your body. You get to choose your style and have fun learning the choreography and the culture behind the movements. Dancing helps to build strength and endurance and encourages self-expression.

3. Martial Arts Classes.

A discipline, a method of protection, and a way of life. There are many types of martial arts to choose from, yet all of them involve commitment and dedication. If you aren’t sure where to start, think about the goals you have for your life. You can also use this guide here to help you choose the one best for you. Keep in mind, most martial arts schools have trial classes as well.

4. Conventions or Expos.

Whether you’re into anime, fantasy, comics, gaming, or all of the above, there is a convention for you. There are dozens of conventions across the globe that provide perfect opportunities to cosplay with friends and/ or make new cosplay partners. Some of the larger-than-life conventions may require preparation and have early-bird ticket prices as well. Here is a guide to 20 Epic Geek Conventions.

5. Popcorn, Snacks, and a Movie!

Imagine you’re with your friends, there is the overwhelming smell of popcorn (extra butter), the sound of candy rattling around in their paper boxes, cushy theater seats, the rumble of the surround sound speakers, and a giant screen in front of you displaying a captivating story. Oh yeah! This might be just me, but I love going to the movie theater (cinema) and I love going with friends and family. I love being so completely enveloped in a story that I feel like I’m one of the characters. I love talking about it with my friends afterward.

Visit IMDb to see what’s playing and what coming to a theater near you.

I know some are uneasy about going to the cinemas or anywhere as if things were completely back to normal. However, I think it’s important for us to get back to doing what we love with who we love while using the new precautions we’ve learned over the past two and a half years.

Enjoy your life again, download OOt Social, and always let your hobbies be your guide. 😉
